EC reopens Yapei-Kusawgu constituency parliamentary nominations Tuesday
The Electoral Commission will reopen the parliamentary nominations for the Yapei-Kusawgu constituency in the Savannah Region on Tuesday, October 27, and Wednesday, October 28, 2020.
"The Electoral Commission will receive nominations for the Yapei/Kusawgu Constituency on Tuesday, 27th October and Wednesday 28th October, 2020", the commission announced in a press statement issued on Thursday.

The move is in accordance with Regulations 13, Sub regulation (4) of Public Elections Regulations, 2020 (C.I 127), following the death of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the area, Abu Kamara.
According to the regulation, “Where at the close of nominations, but before the election, one candidate dies, a further period of 10 days shall be allowed for nominations.”
Abu Kamara died in a road accident with two others on October 16, 2020.
The vehicle they were travelling with reportedly crashed into an articulated truck.
The New Patriotic Party has recommended his brother, Iddrisu Salia Kamara as his replacement.
Per C.I 127, any other person who intends to contest the seat but failed to file nominations within the first window can now do so.

RECEIPT OF NOMINATION – YAPEI/ KUSAWGU CONSTITUENCY
The Electoral Commission will receive nominations for the Yapei/Kusawgu Constituency on Tuesday, 27th October and Wednesday 28th October, 2020.
This has become necessary as a result of the demise of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate of the Yapei/ Kusawgu Constituency.
In accordance with Regulations 13, Subregulation (4) of, the Public Elections Regulations, 2020 (C.I.127), “Where at the close of nominations, but before the election, one of the candidates dies, a further period of ten (10) days shall be allowed for nominations.” In this regard, the Electoral Commission is extending the nomination period for the Yapei/ Kusawgu Constituency of the Savannah Region to allow for the replacement of the Candidate.
Any person who intends to contest for the Parliamentary Election should send his or her filled Nomination Forms to the Returning Officer of the Yapei/ Kusawgu Constituency, at the Yapei/ Kusawgu District Office of the Electoral Commission on the dates stated above. The Returning Officer shall receive all Nominations between the hours of 7.00am and 5.00pm for the two days.
