CPP opens nominations for regional elections

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has opened nominations for regional positions in the 16 regions of the country from last Monday, July 1 to Monday, July 8.

A statement issued by the acting General Secretary of the party, Mr James Kwabena Bomfeh Junior, called on citizens and members of the party to treat the exercise with all seriousness towards the rebuilding process of the party.

Regional offices being vied for are: Regional Chairman, First Vice Chairman, Second Vice Chairman, Third Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Organiser, Women Organiser, Youth Organiser and Education Secretary. Forms are available in all regional offices, the statement said.

According to the party, aspirants must pay a nomination fee of GHȼ3,500 for chairman; GHȼ2,500  for Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer; GHȼ2,000.00 for Organiser, Women Organiser, Youth Organiser and Education Secretary.

Timetable
The Regional office aspirants  accroding to the time table will be vetted between July 11 and July 18.

It said elections would be held in cohorts of four zones —Zone One, July 25 — Upper East, Upper West, North East and Northern; Zone Two, August 1 — Savannah, Bono, Bono East, Ahafo and Oti;  Zone Three, August 8 — Western, Western North, Central and Eastern; Zone Four, August 15 – Volta, Greater Accra, and Ashanti.

According to the CPP, national officers had been assigned to the zones: S G Etroo and E.K. Ogborjor for Zone One; N.A. Bashiru and Alhaji Tijani for Zone Two; Aisha Futa and J. B. Daniels for Zone Three; and Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim for Zone Four.

The statement said the CPP was going to rally all the hearts and minds of Ghanaians dissatisfied with the “duopoly of sameness” since 1993 by joining forces to show a difference in serving the people of Ghana.

It said for the party, leadership was regarded as service to God and fellow humankind and not abuse, debauchery or self-gloating.

“To change the power structure, mobilisation and allocation of resources, the CPP will lead to completely change the Constitution of 1992 which constitutes the foundation of the deceptive life Ghana is leading, particularly in governance,” the statement added.
