CPP gears up for election 2020
The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has completed its regional congress in 11 regions as the party intensifies its internal preparations towards the 2020 election.
So far, the party has held congresses and elected regional executive members in the Central, Bono East, Bono, Ahafo, Western, Ashanti, Western North, Northern, Eastern, North East, and Upper East regions.

The remaining five regions— Oti, Savannah, Volta, Greater Accra and Upper West— will be completed before the end of October, this year, after which the national congress will be the next on the party’s agenda.
Briefing the Daily Graphic regarding the party’s preparations ahead of next year’s general elections, the acting Chairman of the CPP, Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim, said each region would have nine executive members who would be in charge of the 2020 grassroots campaign.
She said the party’s executive had been on its regional election train for the past two weeks to elect determined and well-motivated regional officers who would “go all out to help the CPP win the 2020 elections”.
“So far, the elected regional executive members are made up of men and women who have the party’s best interest and at the same time motivated to use every genuine avenue to get the voting community to turn their attention to the CPP,”Hajia Ibrahim said.

Asked how the party was received at the various regions visited, the chairperson of the CPP said, “it has been exceptionally great as many young and vibrant party members are showing full commitment to assist the party come back to power”.
“Some of the regions are happy with some of their leaders so much that they allowed them to go unopposed while others expressed their readiness to throw their weight behind the winners,” Hajia Ibrahim said.
She explained that due to some internal issues and the exit of the party’s chairman, Professor Edmund Delle, the CPP experienced a delay in its activities and in the process had to re-organise its plans for the election of its executive members.
“Now we are hoping that as soon as the regional elections are done, we can proceed and hold the national elections in November and possibly hit our campaign running for election 2020,” Hajia Ibrahim said.
She said the party was doing everything within its power to ensure that no internal issues derailed its planned election programme and appealed to members to halt any acts that could affect the CPP’s quest to come back to power.
CPP determined
Despite the delays, Hajia Ibrahim said the party was determined and ready to roll out its election campaign as soon as it managed to finish with regional and national elections.
She said the CPP would give the other political parties, particularly the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), a good run for their money in next year’s elections, adding that the party “is coming with full strength and a determined spirit to win back power”.
Hajia Ibrahim called on Ghanaians, especially the youth, to rally behind the party, bearing in mind that only the CPP could redeem them from the present economic woes.
