A 47-year-old businessman in Takoradi, Mr Osmaan Tanko Garba, is eyeing the Western Regional Organiser post of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In line with this, he has assured party delegates that given the chance, he would galvanise more support for the NDC to win Election 2016 hands down.
“I have the requisite capabilities and skills to be elected as the Western Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” he told the Daily Graphic in an interview.
He has, therefore, appealed to party delegates to vote for him in the upcoming regional delegates congress to enable him to realise his dream of becoming part of the regional executive to win votes for the NDC to retain power in 2016.
Mission
According to Mr Garba, his cardinal mission is to secure victory for the NDC by sharpening the decision-making process of the party, through training of party activists and officers and also protecting party property.
Mr Garba, who holds a post-graduate certificate in safety management, as well as Bsc Operations and Project Management, further gave the assurance that he would make conscious efforts to regularly train party agents to participate in all national elections, re-emphasise the role and sustainability of the cadre front, where the youth wing would graduate and be made functional for the party's activities.
An aluminus of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) at Tarkwa, the NDC regional organiser aspirant emphasised that he would have regular and fruitful engagement with stakeholders in governance, such as the Electoral Commission (EC), the press and the security services to find out any challenges pertaining to elections and report same to his party members appropriately.
Lobby
He said all this efforts would be principally geared towards helping the NDC to retain power in 2016, and that he would lobby the government to improve infrastructure in cocoa-growing areas and again improve supply/distribution of cocoa inputs to farmers in the region in particular and elsewhere across the country.
That, according to him, would strengthen the bond between the party and cocoa farmers across the country.
Organisational behaviour
"I studied organisational behaviour while reading my degree programme. The motivational theories I have learnt and which I have also put into practice are available for me to apply if elected as regional organiser," he told the Daily Graphic in Takoradi.
The tall and vocal Garba, also a product of Green College, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Adminstration (GIMPA) in Accra, indicated that he possessed the appropriate communication skills to function as a regional organiser, adding that his proficiency in the various dialects in the region, especially Nzema, was an asset for him to effectively interact with the electorate.
Political profile
The regional organiser contestant, a native of Axim in Western Nzema, said he had once been the party' s regional director of elections, and he was able to provide leadership and guidance for a 73-member directorate.
Mr Garba had also been the parliamentary candidate in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency on the ticket of the then National Reform Party (NRP) and served as the Propaganda Secretary of the party, during which term he conducted outreach and advocacy programmes for branches in the constituency as well as represented on radio stations during talk shows.
He further indicated that he was one time the party's agent at Dompim to guard its interest during the 2008 general election, saying, "I think that, with all these exposure, experience, dedication and commitment to the cause of our great party, I am the best choice for the regional organiser position."
