MCE cautions

The Municipal Chief Executive of the GCMA, Mr Aristo Aryee, who presided over the ceremony, cautioned the members not to be lackadaisical in their work. Per the 1992 Constitution, Mr Aryee said they were supposed to serve as the liaison between the assembly and the electorate and vice versa.

According to him, previous unit committee members relaxed on their duties, which made the work of the assembly members difficult.

“As unit committee members, you are the direct link between the assembly and the people, so you must always ensure that you carry out your duties with due diligence,” he said.

He further called on them to cooperate with the municipality to bring development to the people in the area. In the meantime, the MCE stated that the assembly was also carrying out sensitisation exercises to educate the electorate to demand accountability from their assembly and unit committee members.

We’ll work as a group

In his acceptance speech after he was elected chairman of the committee, Mr Williams promised to work together with the other members for the progress of the municipality.

“We’ll work hand in hand with the assembly members so that the people come be brought on board in the activities of the municipality,” he said.
