Mr Twumasi-Awua declared in a statement, “At the current critical period of the party in opposition, we need a leader who will be a unifier to bring all members on board to work as a team and family to secure victory for this party, come 2016.’’

He also said he had never turned his back on the party and was always at the service of the party, indicating, “ with God on our side, we will succeed.’’

Lawyer Twumasi-Awua also said, ‘‘At this period of our history, what I have to do is to devote my time, energy and attention to securing victory for the party in this region in 2016. NPP is the only hope for the good people of Ghana.’’

The aspiring regional chairman again expressed optimism that it was the NPP that had the propensity to solve the economic problems that the country faced, to ensure the economic well-being of the citizenry.

‘‘With unity, hard work, peace and harmony on our front, victory will be smiling on us, come 2016,’’ Mr Twumasi-Awua reassured Ghanaians.

Mr Twumasi-Awua, 50, a lawyer with 18 years experience, served under the Kufuor administration from 2005-2008 as MCE, after starting his political career as the Regional Youth Organiser of the party from 1998 to 2004.

The former MCE also said he had decided to offer himself as a contestant for the chairmanship position, after careful consideration, adding, ‘‘the party must get someone with a proven track record to work very hard with the rank and file to arrest the dwindling fortunes of the party in the region.’’

The exuberant Twumasi-Awua, who prides himself as the Secretary of the regional campaign team in the 2000 elections, indicated, ‘‘I know the political terrain of the region very well and I am the right person to prescribe solutions to solve the numerous problems confronting the party.’’

He recalled that by dint of hard work, the party increased its parliamentary seats from four to 14 seats in the 2000 elections, adding, ‘‘We won convincingly in the 2000 elections to form the government and when the NPP assumed power in 2001, I was chosen to act as National Youth Organiser of the party.’’

The former Sunyani MCE, who currently works in Sunyani, said he was able to organise the youth wing of the party and placed it on the international arena, stressing, ‘‘I have the political experience and temperament to make the party safe and secure in the 2016 elections. I will fashion and roll out pragmatic policies and programmes to propel the party to win convincingly in the region.’’

The aspiring regional chairman said he was using the occasion to appeal to the distinguished delegates to vote for him as the regional chairman of the NPP to steer the party to victory in Election 2016.
