Ex-President Kufuor endorses Bawumia as “man of the moment” for Ghana

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has once again expressed confidence in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Candidate, describing him as “unique” and “the man of the moment” for Ghana.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, President Kufuor praised Dr. Bawumia’s extensive experience and strong character, emphasizing that he is well-prepared to lead Ghana into a transformative future.

President Kufuor shared his observations of Dr. Bawumia’s career trajectory, lauding his early start as a research assistant to the Governor of the Bank of Ghana at just 31.

He noted Dr. Bawumia’s steady rise as a professor, a senior consultant to the African Development Bank, a deputy governor of the Central Bank, and Vice President for eight years, underscoring how these roles have shaped him for leadership.

“Bawumia has been well-prepared, and I think his preparation makes him unique for the position,” President Kufuor stated.

Qualities as a unifier

President Kufuor highlighted Bawumia’s ability to unify people across religious and ethnic lines, noting that despite being a Muslim, he maintains strong relationships with Ghana’s Christian community.

“I have observed his good conduct. He is not divisive,” President Kufuor said. “He is a northerner, but he gets along so well with everybody. In a country where many try to use religion or ethnicity to create division, Bawumia stands out as a unifier.”

International exposure and tech-savvy vision

The former President also pointed out Dr. Bawumia’s international exposure and understanding of global trends in technology and digitalisation, which he believes are essential for modern leadership.

“Bawumia is well-versed in contemporary global issues, whether in America or other developed parts of the world. We need somebody like him who understands modern trends in global affairs and also in technology and digitalisation,” President Kufuor added.

He further remarked that just as young American tech billionaires shape the world with digital influence, Ghana could benefit from a leader who grasps the power of technology—a strength he sees in Dr. Bawumia.
