Eschew negative tendencies — MCE

Assembly Members in the Offinso Municipal Assembly have been advised to desist from acts that will hamper the development of the municipality.

They have been told to rather place premium on things that unite them to initiate more development projects to enhance the rapid development growth of the area.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Baafuor Kese-Amankwa, gave the advice when he addressed the assembly members during the general assembly meeting at Offinso last Wednesday.

He reminded them that posterity would not forgive them, if they failed to utilise the available resources to promote sustainable development in the municipality.

Baafuor Kese-Amankwa further advised members that they should not allow partisan considerations to override their key objectives that would enhance the welfare of the people in the municipality.

He said it was the collective responsibility of assembly members to promote sustainable development of the municipality and, therefore, anything or behaviour that challenges that aspiration should not be tolerated.

Baafuor Kese-Amankwa stressed that petty squabbles, unbridled ambition, selfishness and personality clashes stalled the development of the area.

He observed with regret that deliberations at all levels at the assembly had been characterised by bitter exchanges, personal attacks, insinuations, mutual suspicion and entrenched positions, forgetting that ultimately “we have the same goal and the same mission.”

The MCE noted that some other assemblies went to the extent of exchanging blows or going to court but “Offinso desires to become a model municipality and should be spared from that negative trend.”

Baafuor Kese-Amankwa appealed to all to be united and not to get distracted by any uncalled for actions or inaction, while ensuring that due diligence was done when or where necessary to ensure value for money.

The Presiding Member of the assembly, Mr Kofi Prempeh, reminded the members of the assembly to refrain from rumour-mongering, personal attacks, backbiting and other negative tendencies which could have serious ramifications on the assembly.

He reminded them that the assemblies all over were governed by laws and, therefore, anybody who had something to talk about should ensure that he or she had the facts.
