A former President of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Vincent Frimpong Manu, has called for adequate resourcing and empowerment of the TESCON members to enable them to play their roles in securing victory for the party in 2016.
According to him, TESCON, at various campuses were endowed with people with rich potential and full of exuberance that could be tapped to spread the party’s message and also police the electoral process for the party in the 2016 elections.
Mr Manu, who is a development practitioner, was speaking to the Daily Graphic, after he had presented 1,000 NPP-branded exercise books to members of the TESCON of the University of Education, Winneba, Kumasi Campus in Kumasi.
Declaration of intention
Mr Manu has declared his intention to contest the Kwadaso parliamentary seat on the ticket of the NPP when nominations opened. Surprisingly, he, together with two others who have similar ambitions, Dr Charles Dwamena and Dr Samiu Nkrumah, joined hands with members of the NPP at Asuoyeboa to clean up some selected areas in the constituency.
The three, who would be contesting the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, used the occasion to also educate the people in the constituency about the need to uphold personal hygiene to avoid diseases such as cholera.
Role of TESCON
Mr Manu, who was a leading member of TESCON at the University of Cape Coast during his tertiary school days, mentioned the critical role TESCON members played in securing the 2000 victory that ushered in the Kufuor Administration.
According to him, the call to resource TESCON was not to only the NPP as a party but also any individual, members of the party, and corporate entities to go the extra mile to help build the capacity of the confederacy.

He also called on the leadership of the party to constantly share experiences and information with the youth of the party, especially members of TESCON.
Mr Manu assured the members of the confederacy that he would continue to support them and urged them to not hesitate to contact him for assistance.
The President of TESCON, Mr Shadrack Oppong, said their lofty ideas to embark on membership drive and campaign vigorously for the party had been hampered because they lacked the required resources.
