Imitating Jamaican sprint superstar, Usain Bolt 's signature victory celebration , the President took the stage to deliver a speech pointing out that the National Democratic Congress (NDC ) needed every single vote in the north "not because I am a Northerner but because if you weigh both the NPP and the NDC on a scale it is the NDC that is heavier as it has done more than the NPP in terms of development for the people of the three regions of the north".

He therefore entreated the teeming supporters in the north to turn out in their numbers to vote for the party on December 7.

Some residents described the gathering as the biggest political rally held in the regional capital in recent history.

Every inch of space at the vast Jubilee Park was filled with the crowds spilling into the adjoining streets.

The young and old poured out in incredible style to listen to the man who they believed is the right choice to lead the country in the next four years.
And President Mahama responded to the huge welcome with a typical speech that sent the crowd cheered repeatedly.

He told the teeming supporters to cast their minds back and consider under which regime the north was well catered for under the Rural Electrification Project(REP) which connected the Brong Ahafo, and the three northern regions to the national grid,.

"That is the reason why I salute former President Jerry John Rawlings for embarking on such a development agenda and today the north has electricity, " President Mahama said of the man under whom he served as a minister.

Development spread

President Mahama said the NDC government had spread development throughout the ten regions of the country because the "NDC does not discriminate against any region just because a region did not vote for the party.

Mr Mahama also assured residents of the Upper East Region that funding for the second phase of the regional Hospital.had been secured.

The President also assured the region that two sheanut processing factories would be established in the region and the Upper West Region adding that the cotton finery in the north would be revived to provide employment and boost the cotton industry in the area.

He indicated that plans were underway for the Ghana Airport Company to provide an Airport each for the Upper East and Central Regions to boost domestic flight.

The President used the occasion to introduce the Bolgatanga Central Parliamentary Candidate for the NDC ,Mr.Isaac Adongo to the supporters and thanked the incumbent MP, ,Mr.Emmanuel Opam Brown for his show of maturity in forging ahead in unity.

Traditional Council

President Mahama earlier on called on members of the Bolgatanga Traditional Council where the acting President of the Council,Naba Johnson Awuni Azebire, reminded him about the need to complete the Bolgatanga-Bongo road.

Naba Azebire who is also the Chief of Yorogo equally told the President that the security agencies in the Bolgatanga Municipality were effectively handling the security situation in the area as a result of the Bolgatanga Chieftaincy problem

The President in his response stated that government would not interfere in matters of Chieftaincy but was required to help maintain law and order to enable people go about their normal duties.
