It was attended by members of the council, Imams, opinion leaders, members of political parties, women and the youth in the zongo communities in Accra.

A senior research fellow at IDEG, Dr Kwesi Jonah, underlined the importance of peace in Ghana’s development.

He said political tolerance was the only means by which Ghana could consolidate the gains made out of multi-party democracy, adding that it would enable the nation to maintain is rank as the shining star of Africa.

Dr Jonah, therefore, urged participants at the workshop to educate their relations on the importance of political tolerance.

He said the ‘winner-takes-all’ political system being practiced in the country was having a negative effect on the country’s democracy.

Dr Jonah expressed the need for Ghanaians to imbibe the virtues of tolerance and patience as means to ensuring peace and tranquillity and to attract investors to enhance development.

A private legal practitioner, Mr Hassan Tampuli, said the anticipated ruling of the Supreme Court should not be considered as victory for any individual or political party, but as victory for the country's electoral system and democracy.

The chairman for the ceremony, Alhaji Gado, cautioned supporters of political parties to remain calm after the ruling.

The Public Relations Officer of the council, Chief Imoro Baba-Issah, said there was the need for Muslim leaders to be peace ambassadors in their communities to promote development.

One of the participants, Imam Hussein, expressed concern about what he described as the sensationalism of the election petition case in the media.
