Ekumfi confirms DCE

The 37-member Ekumfi District Assembly has confirmed Mr Ibrahim Kweku Dawson as the first District Chief Executive for the new district.

The district was carved out of the Mfantseman Municipality in October, 2012.

Mr Dawson, popularly called “Michigan,” is a businessman who deals in books and stationery. He polled 35 votes as against two to get the nod.

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Sarpong, commended the assembly members for voting massively for the DCE.

He said the main function of a district assembly was to bring development to the people and added that that could not be performed without a DCE, who would approve and sign the assembly’s documents.

Mr Sarpong expressed concern about the way the assemblies in the region were kicking against the President’s nominees and appealed to them to stop that behaviour.
