They also sent their condolences to the family of the late Mr Harry Sawyer.

They donated rice, maize, sugar, biscuits, detergents, oil and boxes of bottled and sachet water to the leprosarium at Weija and an orphanage in Accra.

Making the presentation last Monday, Mr Lamptey said it was their responsibility to make the less fortunate ones happy during the Christmas period.

He urged Ghanaians not to forget about lepers and orphans when they are planning for Christmas. “Let them feel that they are part of your enjoyment.”

The Board Chairman of the leprosarium, Rev. Fr Andrew Campbell, who received the items on behalf of the two institutions, expressed regret that the meagre 80 Ghana pesewas a day which was being paid for the upkeep of lepers in Ghana had been outstanding since April 2013.

He said lepers had been living on charity since their feeding money stopped coming in April.

The Rev Father appealed to benevolent societies, churches and individuals to help feed the lepers.

He said the 80 Ghana pesewas a day was not enough and appealed to government to increase it to at least 1.50 Ghana cedis a day to enable the lepers to be fed a balanced diet.

The aspiring executives also donated rice, oil, maize and boxes of treated water to the family of Mr Sawyer whose funeral has been slated for December 21.

They also signed a book of condolence in memory of the former minister and a member of the Council of Elders of the NDC at his Labone home. - GNA
