Dr Tuffour wins NDC Tema West Parliamentary slot for 2020 polls

A 36-year-old medical practitioner, Dr Raphael Kwesi Sarpong Tuffour beat competition from Mr  Wakefield W. Ackuaku polling 755 of the 1,205 votes that were cast in the Tema West Constituency.

A former Presiding Member of the Tema Metropolitan Aseembly (TMA), Mr Romeo Akahoho who also doubles as the Assemblyman for Adjei-Kojo who was tipped to win only managed just 37 votes.

The conduct of the election was generally peaceful.

Delegates however nearly marred the peaceful nature of the event during the counting of ballots necessitating the need for police intervention.

Dr Tuffour in his remarks commended his fellow competitors particularly Mr Ackuaku for giving him a run for his money.

While admitting that the work ahead would be difficult considering that the seat is traditionally perceived to belong to New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Tuffour maintained that team work would do the magic for the NDC to for the first time in 24 years attain the seat.

"Areas such as Community 2, 3, and 5 are strongholds of the NPP but the strategy is to ensure that we infiltrate and amass as many votes as we can," he said.

"I knows the task ahead won't be easy but I believe the NDC can cause an upset in the 2020 general elections within the constituency," he added.

Ashaiman

There were however no elections in Ashaiman following a decision by the national leadership of the NDC to open fresh nominations in that constituency following the death of one of the contenders, Mr Emmanuel Max-Voy who passed on few weeks ago after a short illness.
