Dormaa East MP lauds govt over TOR revival
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Dormaa East, Mr Paul A. Twum Barimah, has commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Minister of Energy, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, for taking the initiative and the bold step to revive the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).
He said TOR was a strategic facility in the oil sector and reviving it would boost the downstream petroleum sector in Ghana.

According to Mr Twum Barimah, the government had already taken the responsibility to pay the legacy debt of TOR and change the entire management of TOR; a move which saw the MD and his deputy being relieved of their posts.
Sanity
Speaking in an interview with journalists in Accra, he said the move by President Akufo-Addo would help restore sanity and calm at TOR.
That, he said, would also lead to the transformation needed to promote efficient production.
Mr Twum Barimah described the Energy Minister as a man of action who had the political will to revive the operations of TOR.
He, therefore, urged Ghanaians to support the President and the Minister of Energy to deliver on their mandate.
Dr Opoku Prempeh has sworn in a three-member Interim Management Committee (IMC) into office to oversee the affairs of the Tema Oil Refinery as part of efforts to restructure and revamp the refinery.
Chaired by Mr Nobert Cormla-Djamposu Anku, the other members of the IMC are Mr William Ntim Boadu and Mr Okyere Baffuor Sarpong.
The committee’s terms of reference include ensuring the smooth transfer from the outgone directors, undertaking technical and human resource audits as well as receiving and assessing viable partnerships for TOR, if any.
Mr Twum Barimah said strategic and tactical plans must be initiated to guide TOR’s operations from the medium to the long term.
The strategic plan, he said, should include appointing a competent, well trained management expert as chief executive of the state firm with a target to turn its fortunes around from the short to medium term and supporting TOR to secure a loan to purchase crude oil to refine.
