Speaker of Parliament, Mr Doe Adjaho

Doe Adjaho to rule on Talensi seat controversy

The Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho, will tomorrow rule on the controversy surrounding the status of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Talensi constituency Robert Mosore, now the paramount chief of the Talensi Traditional Area.

The NPP MP is reported to have written to the Speaker to inform him of his new status and his desire to oblige the Constitution by doing "the right thing".

However, the Speaker told the House last Friday that after many days of expectation, he was yet to hear from their colleague.

He served notice he would make a final determination and rule on the matter tomorrow.

He declined a request by the Minority Leader to hold on with the ruling since he (Minority Leader) would not be in the chamber on the day in question.

Ghana's Constitution bars chiefs from taking part in partisan politics.

The Majority has in the recent past pushed for his removal from the House. Their position had been supported by a Member of the Minority, Samuel Atta Akyea, who had asked Parliament to stop paying his colleague.
