Danquah Institute advises NDC to stop inciting Ewes
The Danquah Institute has asked residents of the Volta Region to disregard the “war mongering” and “intimidation rhetoric’” created by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to incite Ewes against the New Patriotic Party as a non-Ewe loving party.
During a press conference in Aflao, Director of the Institute, Dr Richard Ahiagbah, stated that recent statements on the citizenship of Ewes, were blown out of proportion and weaponised by the NDC who only sought to incite the people of the region against the NPP.

“The promoters and beneficiaries of this corrupt politics, the NDC, are purveyors of reverse bigotry, and they must be roundly condemned and rejected. Let me state for the avoidance of doubt that Ewes are Ghanaians, and it is not up for debate, negotiation, or interpretation whatsoever. This is a definite truth.”
False narratives
Mr Ahiagba also asked the people of the region to disregard the “idea that this government has deployed military officers to the Volta Region to prevent people from registering to vote” as it was a “false pretext by the NDC to foment chaos and pursue voter registration illegalities”.
“Anyone who tells you that this government is trying to disenfranchise Ewes, with the military's deployment to the region, tell them it is not true, and that the deployment is nationwide to combat the importation of COVID-19.”
Personnel deployment
Dr Ahiagbah stated that the nationwide deployment of the military and police officers to the country’s borders to support their immigration counterparts in ensuring no COVID-19 importation, was based on the law (Executive Instrument 64 and 65) passed unanimously by the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, with the support of NDC MPs from the Volta Region and, therefore, could not fathom why the Member of Parliament for Ho West, Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, would kick against its implementation.
“It is disingenuous on the part of Mr Bedzrah, who voted to pass E.I 65 into law, to now come to the Volta Region to chant war and to issue a 24-hour ultimatum to the President to cease the enforcement of the law he passed.”
No intimidation
Dr Ahiagba also debunked the NDC’s allegations of brutalities by security personnel on citizens and said first hand observations made at all entry points and border communities during a week-long tour indicated a friendly atmosphere between security personnel and civilians.
“There was nothing violent or warring about our observations in Atikpoe. From Atikpoe to Shia, Honuta, Wli-Todzi, Agortime Todzi, Agortimekofe, Wudoaba, Ashanti Kpoeta, and here, in Aflao township and entry points, we observed zero sign of intimidation of the people.”
He said the NDC must understand that Ghanaians or Ewes were discerning and, therefore, must stop the imposition of its politics on the region.
