CPP intensifies campaign at Kumbungu
The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has intensified its campaign in the Kumbungu Constituency in the Northern Region as it seeks to retain the seat it won in a by-election in 2013.

Led by its Presidential candidate, Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, the party, on its sixthday of campaigning in the area, descended on the constituency with five mini rallies.
The party’s parliamentary candidate, Mr Amadu Moses Yahyah, is seeking a second term to complete what he says is “his work in progress” in one of the country’s deprived rural communities.
With his achievement displayed on billboards across the constituency, Mr Yahyah is hoping to retain the seat he won in 2013 after the then National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament (MP), Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, resigned to take up an international appointment.
MP’s project
Key among the projects displayed on the billboards are the provision of water, construction of steel bridge on a stream, roads, market sheds, construction of a court for the chief of Zugu, and also initiated an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) centre at Gbulung.
One constituency, five rallies
After paying a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Kumbungu to seek his consent to campaign in the area, the party went into action and organised five mini rallies in Kumbungu, Dalung, Zangbalung, Zugu and Gbulung.
Not even the darkness and the bad roads leading to the remote communities prevented the team from campaigning .
The CPP’s presidential candidate said the party would put all its weight behind its parliamentary candidate to maintain the seat as it also sought to make inroads into other constituencies in the region dominated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He assured the constituents that the party would construct roads,provide water, agriculture and microfinance scheme for women engaged in petty trading.
Mr Greenstreet said the NDC and the NPP had nothing to offer the constituency as their tenure in office did not provide much for the constituency.
MP’s achievements
On the achievement of the MP, he said the CPP had more in store for the constituency, saying, “You can see the streetlights, the water and the many other projects; the Convention People’s Party has more.
Come December 2016, give us the opportunity to bring more progress, opportunity and development to you.”
PWDs
One of the notable features of the CPP campaign is its ability to mobilise persons with disability (PWDs) to have engagements with the flag bearer.
Hopeful of changing the fortunes of PWDs, Mr Greenstreet listed the party’s policies and programmes for the disability community, including free education from basic to the tertiary level, free health care and progressively free transportation for them.
He also reiterated the party’s commitment to a legislation that would ensure that PWDs made up at least five per cent of the workforce of all employers whether private or public.
The flag bearer was accompanied by the National Chairman, Prof. Edmund Delle; First National Vice Chairman of the party, Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim; the Third National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Ahmadu Tijani; the National Organiser, Mr Emmanuel Ogborjor; National Campaign Coordinator, Mr Rashid Alao and a host of regional and constituency organisers.
Hajia Hamdatu who is an indigene of Kumbungu urged the electorate to honour her and not to put her to shame by ensuring that the party retained the seat.
There was scenes of jubilation when the campaign trails of the CPP and NDC met on one of the roads in the constituency. While the NDC supporters waved their flags while dancing in their trucks, their CPP counterparts also matched them with “top and down” hand gestures in reference to the position of their candidates on the ballot paper.
Temporary bridge
Earlier, the CPP presidential candidate inspected a temporary bridge constructed by the party’s Parliamentary candidate, Ms Hajia Zelia Issah, on a drain which residents claimed took a life during the rainy season at Sagnarigu.
Mr Greenstreet said the party supported Ms Issah as an assembly member of the Sagnarigu Electoral Area to construct the bridge.

He also pledged to reconstruct a permanent bridge as well as help improve the water and sanitation needs of the community.
Meanwhile, the CPP takes its Apamfoforo message to the Upper East Region as it ends its campaign in Salaga.
