Community centre for Akwakwaa

A Community centre worth GH¢40, 000 has been inaugurated by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Agona East Constituency, Mrs Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr.  It is for Agona Akwakwaa in the  constituency, which doubles as the  Agona East District in the Central Region.

The project, which was financed by Mrs Sawyerr, who is also the Deputy Central Regional Minister, is aimed at providing a conducive environment for the people to hold their functions.

Inaugurating the project at a well-attended ceremony last Friday, Mrs Sawyerr said she undertook the project upon a request made by the chiefs and elders of the town about a year ago.

She noted that as MP for the area, she had signed a social contract with the electorate and would work to ensure an improvement in the welfare of the people, as well as the development of the area.

She assured her constituents of her resolve to promote development which would impact positively on the lives of the people.

She added that as a way of reducing the financial burden on parents, she had given GH¢200 and educational materials  to  each  of the about 200 first-year students who had gained admission to senior high schools in the district this year.

She stressed that the gesture was to motivate the beneficiary students to study hard to become responsible adults in the future.

The MP indicated that she would not be partisan in the discharge of her duties, and assured her people  that she would reach out to all, irrespective of one’s political affiliation; adding, “Though I am an MP on the ticket of the NDC, I will bring everybody on board towards the forward march of the district.”

The Deputy Central Regional Minister called for support from the traditional authority and  the government, since the two needed effective collaboration for the progress of the district.
