Intense pressure is mounting on the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Ms Lauretta Vivian Lamptey to resign following accusations of financial misappropriation levelled against her.
Ms Lamptey is said to have spent an enormous amount of the commission’s scarce resources on an expensive rent apartment at the African Union Village and hotel bills while failing to effectively discharge her duties.
She is said to have since August this year, moved into a hotel after the US$5,500 monthly rent for her apartment at the African Union (AU) Village expired.
She has denied the accusations but campaign coordinator for civil society group ISODEC, Dr Steve Manteaw thinks her continued stay in office was illegal if the accusations were true.
A group in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), United Cadre Front has also added their voice to the calls for her to resign
According to a leading member of the group, Camelot Tia, Ms Lamptey has no moral right to continue to stay in office.
For Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Ghana, all the bodies involved should collaborate to ensure that she is removed,
