The chiefs also commended the assembly for maintaining peace and tranquillity in the area.

They made the commendation when they paid a courtesy call on the MCE at Akyem Oda.

The chiefs included Nana Akua Asantewa III, Obrempong Gyamfi Saforo Kyere, queen and Krontihene, respectively of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area.

The other chief was Nana Owusu Gyamadu IV, the  Akyem Anyinasihene who doubles as the Abusuapanin of the traditional area and is also the immediate past Eastern Regional representative on the Council of State.

“Apart from the era of the late District Commissioner, Kwame Kwakye, in the First Republic, the municipality has not witnessed massive infrastructural development as is happening now under your administration,” the chiefs noted.

Nana Asantewa, who acted as the spokesperson for the chiefs, urged Ms Koomson not to rest on her oars but to continue to work hard to promote the Better Ghana agenda in the municipality.

She was, however, not happy about the deplorable road network at Akyem Oda and wanted to know the plans the assembly had towards its rehabilitation for the traditional council to provide the necessary support.

Nana Asantewa also expressed worry about congestion in the Central Business District and said the council was prepared to assist the assembly in any decongestion exercise.

In her response, Ms Koomson said the roads had been awarded on contract and the contractors would soon move to site.

She indicated that through her efforts, a department of Urban Roads would be established at Akyem Oda and all challenges concerning road rehabilitation would be a thing of the past.

The MCE expressed her gratitude to the chiefs and said, “For me to succeed in my administration, I will need the total support of the Akyem Kotoku chiefs.”

She said their suggestions and corrections were always welcome  and pleaded with them that where they did not agree on policies of the municipality they should not hesitate to call her behind closed doors so that together they could iron out their differences.
