Nana Amoako Essel III, President of the union,  said the assumption of President Mahama to the highest office of the land would enable him to continue with the phase two of the “Better Ghana” agenda.

He was speaking at a meeting of the group at Anomabo in Mfantseman West on Saturday to discuss matters affecting the welfare of members.

Nana Amoako Essel expressed the hope that the government of President Mahama would promote the fishing industry and improve the welfare of fishermen in the country.

He appealed to President Mahama to help solve the protracted problems associated with the supply of premix fuel to promote fishing, adding that “the intermittent supply of the product has not assisted the fishing industry, especially along the coastal areas”.

Nana Kwamena Sankah II, Assistant Secretary of the union, appealed to the Ministry Food and Agriculture to help solve problems affecting the industry, particularly the delay in the issuance of permits by the Forestry Commission for the felling of trees for the construction of canoes.

He also asked President Mahama to continue the project of the late President John Evans Atta Mills to construct landing beaches at some selected coastal communities to help improve fishing. -GNA
