Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-GloverThe Member of Parliament for Tema East, Mr Daniel Titus-Glover, has asked President John Mahama to urgently cede part of the Ghana Armed Forces Eastern Naval Command’s land to the people of Tema Manhean to expand their health centre into a polyclinic.

The MP said the Eastern Naval Command was currently constructing accommodation for junior ratings on a particular stretch of land that had been earmarked for the expansion of that health facility.

Mr Titus-Glover said in a statement that the people of Tema Manhean could not comprehend why the Eastern Naval Command was carrying out its accommodation project on that particular land when there was vast land within its premises for that kind of endeavour.

He said the people of Manhean had suffered a lot because the compulsory acquisition of greater parts of their land by the government for industrialisation.

Mr Titus-Glover said the health centre that was built in 1970 could no longer support the huge population of the area which currently had about 70,000 people.

The MP added that the expansion of the facility would take the pressure off the Tema General Hospital that was already overstretched.

He explained that even though he had written to the Ministry of Defence for the release of part of that land for the expansion of that project, his request had been denied.
