The Member of Parliament for Asokwa Constituency, Patricia Apiagyei, has presented a number of items valued at GH¢40, 000.00 to support the cleanliness campaign in the area.
The presentation was made from part of her share of the common fund to assembly members in the Asokwa Constituency, and is expected to help stem cases of cholera outbreak in the country that has afflicted many Ghanaian households.
She presented five wheel barrows, five pairs of Wellington boots, 10 rakes, 10 cutlasses, 20 shovels, 40 noise masks, 36 hand gloves and 10 brooms to each assembly member in the 12 electoral areas in the constituency.
At a presentation ceremony at Ahinsan in Kumasi, she said the presentation was a demonstration of her personal commitment.
She noted that many individuals and volunteers in society would want to help clear filth in their environment but lacked adequate facilities to achieve that, and expressed the hope that the items would bring relief to such a class.
She urged the assembly members to use the items for their purposes and asked that at the grass roots level, they must all endeavour to complement the government’s efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on health for the betterment of all.
She called on the public to join the cleanliness campaign and declare zero tolerance for filth in their neighbourhoods.
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communication Officer for the Asokwa Constituency, Mr Edmund A. Kyei, said much as the assembly members sought for development in their various electoral areas, it was pertinent for them to be committed to the fight against filth and urged them to live as models of hope to society.
The Assembly Member for Ahinsan Electoral Area, Nana Yaw Wiredu, who received the items on behalf of the assembly members, expressed gratitude to the MP for the support.
