Asokwa fails again to elect PM

For the second time, the newly inaugurated Asokwa Municipal Assembly failed to elect a Presiding Member after the two contestants failed to poll the required number to assume the post.

After the two rounds of voting, the two who contested for the position the last time, Oscar Richies and Bismark Osei Tutu, failed to obtain two thirds of the votes cast to enable them to be sworn in as PM.

In the first round of the voting, they polled nine votes each, thus necessitating a second round.

In the second round, Mr Osei Tutu beat his rival by a single vote, thus obtaining 10 votes.

The voting pattern was the reverse of what happened on January 23, 2020 when Mr Richies rather got 10 votes in the second round of the voting.
New nominees

The two thus become ineligible to contest for the position when nominations open at a later date for the position, so there will be new nominations at the next meeting.

Welfare

The Amakomhene, Nana Adu Asare Mensah, who chaired the occasion, advised the assembly members to bury their differences and be guided by the development of the assembly and the welfare of the residents than their selfish interest.
