The Asante-Bekwai Constituency bench of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is aiming at getting 20,000 votes in the 2016 general election.
This, according to the Constituency Chairman of the party, Mr Sualihu Musah, would be done through the intensification of house-to-house campaign, as well as strengthening the grass roots machinery of the party.
He announced this when he delivered his victory speech after his third re-election as the constituency chairman at Bekwai during the constituency elections.
Results
During the 2012 general election, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had 40,633, while the NDC polled 7,894.
But the NDC would like to use all its strength and resources to triple its results.
Constituency election
During the constituency election supervised by the Electoral Commission, Mr Musah won the election after polling 301 votes, beating Collins Sarpong Sarkodie, who had 238 votes.
The post of Secretary was won by Kofi Fofie Pogas with 267 votes, beating Charles Oppong who polled 107.
Mohammed Seidu retained his position as the Propaganda Secretary with 366, beating Sarkodie Addo 186.
Other positions contested were organiser and women’s organiser.
The former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Yaw Edusie, who supervised the election, commended the Bekwai Constituency for the peaceful conduct of the polls.
He urged the losing parties in the election to put what happened before and during the election behind them and join the executive to work hard to retain the party in power during the 2016 general election.
In a related development, the Ejisu-Juaben Constituency of the NDC also elected Eugene Agyarko, a supervisor of the Zoomlion company as its new chairman.
He polled 198 votes to beat the incumbent Kofi Acheampong, who had only 43.
The post of Secretary went to George Huze, while his sister, Gloria Huze, was elected the Women’s Organiser.
