Arrest of Appiah Stadium needless, Prez won’t support it – Gabby

Appiah Stadium, also known as Frank Kwaku Appiah was arrested on Tuesday, by the Ashanti Regional Police to substantiate an allegation that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo smokes ‘wee’ [marijuana], which is a banned substance in Ghana.

Appiah made the allegation in a voice note he recorded and circulated it on WhatsApp insisting that President Akufo-Addo smokes ‘wee’ [marijuana].

He has since been transferred to the police headquarters in Accra after he was arrested earlier on Tuesday in Kumasi.

ASP Juliana Obeng, the Police Ashanti Public Relations Officer said he was arrested following orders from the police headquarters in Accra.

But commenting on the development Facebook, Mr Otchere-Darko said: “These things shouldn't happen. I can see the President being extremely unhappy about any citizen being arrested for allegedly insulting him. It goes against all that he stands for. I may not be privy to the details but I know whatever the justification, the President will not like this one bit.

“He could have been invited without the handcuffs. Very unnecessary; uncool.”

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Brogya Genfi, has called for the immediate release of Appiah Stadium.
