A former Member of Parliament (MP) under the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Mrs Lucy Anin, has disclosed that there are many anti-Nkrumah agents who are planting “Trojan horses” in the party to kill Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s vision.

“For far too long, this truth has not been said in the manner in which it ought to, thereby leaving these charlatans to bastardise the good intentions of the founder of this nation called Ghana,” she said.

Currently, a member of the council of elders for the CPP and the only Member of Parliament (MP) alive in the first parliament of Ghana, Mrs Anin made the statement in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the party which is scheduled for today, June 12, 2019.

She was one of the first 10 female MPs selected to represent various regions of Ghana. Of the 10 female MPs, she was the youngest, entering the parliament house from the Brong Ahafo Region.

The CPP was formed in 1949 during the struggle for independence. It was the first party to rule Ghana after independence. It had the popular support campaign under the slogan “self-government now”.

In 1951, the party won almost all the elective seats in the post Coussey legislation assembly.

Visionary leader

“Exactly 70 years ago, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the greatest African of the millennium, a visionary leader, Africa’s foremost patriot was moved by the Holy Spirit when he founded the CPP. The first mass political party, such was the passion and the spirit that infected the country and paved the way for its emancipation and development after independence.

The colonialist and the neo-colonialist could not sleep,” the former MP who chalks 80 years tomorrow stated.

Mrs Anin added that CPP was currently a pale shadow of its former glory not because the ideology of the party had lost its relevance, “but because a few incorrigible charlatans have made it their milking cow collecting monies from their paymasters to destroy the fortunes of this great party,” she added.

Rebirth

She stressed that soon the roots of such wicked actors would be removed and nothing could stop the progress of the party.

“The rebirth shall be like a tsunami clearing the path of the loyal and the righteous but destroying the intentions of the wicked,” Mrs Anin added.
