'Amicus Curiae' Amekudzi thrills Supreme Court

He said the Supreme Court itself before entertaining the matter must make a determination and that was why he was in court.

But Justice Anin Yeboah, a member of the panel asked him to look at the procedure and said no matter the interesting points he made without a statement of case he was out of court and urged him not to trifle with the court.

"Where is your statement of case for this review application?" Justice Anin Yeboah asked.

Amekudzi explained his statement of case was the ruling given by the court and felt the court erred and it would set a dangerous precedent. He said presenting a statement of case meant he was abandoning his case, something he was not ready to do.

One of the judges asked if he had a copy of the Procedure Rules and he said he left it at home.

He was presented with a copy to read and was asked by one of the judges if, per what he read, he was ready to follow the right procedure or would have the judges rule on the matter.

Responding, Mr Amekudzi said he had researched at the Ghana School of Law file and when they made copies for him they all turned to be “abandonement, abandonement, abandonement” but he did not want to abandon his case.

“These are the issues that confront your court, this highest court”.

It was at this point that he alleged that books at the library had been hidden deliberately.

He said he felt that action of “hiding reference books” was “serious” and that the Supreme Court’s attention should be drawn to it.

“Well before I left Ghana there was a very big library at the Supreme Court when we were coming here to make references. All those books we don’t know where they are. You cannot even get a single book,” he said.

One of the judges intervened and said he (Amekudzi) had a very good point but said the library books have not been hidden and that the only thing was that a new building has been constructed to house the library.

“I believe before you left where the administration block was the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice office was a car park, not so, but since your return, you have seen those magnificent buildings,” to which Amekudzi responded, "beautiful."

The judge said the library has only been relocated so he (Amekudzi) could start visiting there from 'tomorrow or even this afternoon'.

"Your Lordships I have been going there long time and the books are hidden, well it is a very serious matter if maybe this highest court of the land's attention is drawn to it, even the computer book there is only one copy at the reference, you can’t get it at all".
