THE presidential hopeful of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo Addo, has indicated his resolve to help address the challenges facing the nation when offered the opportunity by his party to contest the 2016 general election.
According to him, he had the wherewithal to lead the nation to the promise land and expressed the hope that Ghanaians would repose confidence in him in his third attempt to become president and transform the country for prosperity.
“President Kufuor took us there. Instead of the NDC building on it, they have taken us back. God-willing, when we come back at the beginning of 2017, the task for transforming our country, giving our country an economy that will allow our young people to get work, an economy that will change the dynamics of the North will commence,” he stated.
Nana Akufo Addo, who was in Tamale on Wednesday to express appreciation to the Northern Region delegates for endorsing him in last month’s Special Electoral College voting, explained that he was overwhelmingly voted for following “my track record as incorruptible and decisive leader.”
He further debunked the assertion that the massive victory he chalked up was achieved out of duress visited on the delegates and insisted that it was won on merit.
The presidential hopeful disagreed with the party’s former general secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, who, after his shocking defeat at the delegates congress in Tamale, advised political office seekers to fear delegates.
“You remember when Sir John lost the last elections as general secretary, he came out to say that we should fear delegates but I have to disagree with him because in my case I trust delegates.”
... He picks 1st slot on ballot paper
The New Patriotic Party yesterday conducted balloting for the three presidential aspirants who have indicated their desire to continue with the process to elect the flag bearer of the party scheduled for October 18, 2014.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the twice presidential candidate of the party picked the first position on the ballot paper, followed by Mr Francis Addai Nimoh and Mr Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen in that order.
A statement signed the party’s General Secretary, Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong reminded all aspirants, their spokespersons, agents and assigns to strictly respect, abide by the guidelines, rules and regulations governing the presidential primaries.
Further guidelines will be communicated in due course, he stated.
