Akufo-Addo lauds President mahama

The 2016 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has applauded President Mahama for joining in the condemnation of the Ghana Police for meting out unprovoked brutalities against unarmed citizens during the last Wednesday, September 16, demonstration for a new voters register.

The President’s condemnation, according to Nana Akufo-Addo, has reassured all democrats and freedom-loving Ghanaians of the nation’s commitment to maintain democratic governance.

It will be recalled that President Mahama is reported to have said at the Asogli Yam festival, in Ho, last Saturday, September 19, that “I have held discussions with the police authority and urged the command to review the unfortunate event of last Wednesday in line with policies and procedures that officers are expected to follow in response to incidents of this sort. The basic rights of all citizens must be recognised and respected at all times.”

However, Nana Akufo-Addo respectfully disagreed with the President’s directive for an internal police review into the brutal assaults of the demonstrators, stating that it could lead to a cover-up.

Nana Akufo-Addo, on behalf of the NPP, extended his deepest regrets to Justice Adzakumah, who lost one of his eyes as a result of police brutality during the demonstration.

The NPP presidential candidate made this known on Sunday, September 20, on the final day of his tour of the Northern Region,

Meanwhile Samuel Duodu & Zadok Kwame Gyesi, report from  Tamale that  the  leader of the NPP, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo Addo, has pledged to transform northern Ghana into an industrial hub through revitalisation of the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) when elected as the president in the 2016 election.

That, he explained, would help to address the frequent migration of people from the three northern regions to the south to look for non-existing jobs.

Nana Akufo-Addo said this when he interacted with some branch, constituency and regional executives of the party in Tamale in the Northern Region during his "Arise and Build" tour in the region.

According to Nana Addo, SADA had failed to achieve its mandate due to lack of proper implementation methods and leadership skills.

Victory

Touching on the party's chances of victory in the 2016 election, he said the party needed to increase its performance in the regions it performed poorly in the last elections.

Nana Akufo-Addo said it was about time all the party members buried their differences and united with common purpose to wrest power from the NDC.

He said he would do everything possible to ensure that the party's internal wrangling became a thing of the past.

Unity

The Northern Regional Chairman of the party, Mr Daniel Bugre Naabu, said the party had come out more united in the region after its parliamentary primaries.

He said, "I dare say we are now more composed and poised to go to the field and do what we ought to do for victory in 2016."

He added that the executives in the region would work towards the supreme interest of the party to ensure Nana Addo's victory.
