Mr Ernest Norgbey, poised to unseat Agbeshi

Agbesi losing grip of Ashaiman ticket

The Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Mr Alfred Kwami Agbesi's fourth term bid seems to have fallen in a ditch as provisional results from 25 out of 35 constituencies puts Mr Ernest Norgbey in a comfortable lead with some 3,688 votes so far going into his favour.

Mr Agbesi on the other has garnered some 1,241 votes so far. A third candidate, Mr Max Voy is following with 446 votes.

Already, jubilant supporters of Mr Norgbey who received the provisional results via social media platform WhatsApp, could be seen riding motorcycles dangerously amidst tooting of horns on the principal streets of Ashaiman.

Other jubilant supporters were also packed into tricycles singing and chanting "Bye bye oooo, Bye bye oooo, Agbesi Bye bye oooo por, por, por."

The atmosphere at the premises of the Ashaiman District Police Command where the collation is taking place is charged as supporters of the various aspirants have gathered to witness the declaration.

Heavy Police Presence
Considering that elections in Ashaiman have also come along with a baggage, the police are leaving no stone unturned to maintain law and order.

Following pockets of near clashes at some selected polling stations, a military reinforcement team from the First Battalion of Infantry which earlier in the day assisted the police to control the crowd has cordoned off the frontage of the collation centre with armoured vehicles and combat gears to ward off trouble makers.

The police patrol team is also seen moving round the constituency to maintain law and order.

There are indications declaration of results might go deep into the night as electoral officials began collations only around 8:30pm owing to delays caused by the late arrival of most registers at some polling centres which led to voting at those centres ending after 7pm.
