Some delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) calling themselves ‘Aboterewura’ for President (AFOP) have declared their support for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ahead of the October 18, 2014 national delegates’ congress.
According to AFOP, Nana Akufo-Addo, the party’s 2012 presidential candidate, has demonstrated exemplary leadership and statesmanship making him the most suitable person to lead the party in the 2016 general election.
“Only Nana Akufo-Addo has the zeal to lead the NPP to regain power from the incompetent National Democratic Congress (NDC) government,” the Chairman of AFOP, Mr John Agbotey, said this at a press conference in Accra on Monday.
Nana Akufo-Addo’s credential
He said one of the key attributes that distinguished Nana Akufo-Addo and made him stand tall among his peers was his desire to address challenges that continued to hamper the growth of the country’s economy.
“Nana Addo was never corrupt, he is not corrupt and he will never be corrupt,” Mr Agbotey said.
According to him, the massive votes Nana Akufo-Addo secured during the NPP’s Electoral College congress were an indication that he had the backing of the delegates.
“This massive endorsement was that of the topmost leadership of the party. Yes, it is our time as the grass roots of the party to do what the ordinary Ghanaian is asking for, and that is to bring back Nana for victory 2016,” Mr Agbotey said.
Bad leadership
Addressing some of the current economic challenges, he said the shape of Ghana’s economy was a direct reflection of bad leadership exhibited by the NDC government.
AFOP
According to him, AFOP was made up of over 600 delegates, representing about 80 per cent in Ablekuma North Constituency.
Some of the members, he mentioned, were the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma North Constituency, Mr Justice Joe Appiah, and the Chairman of the constituency, Mr Kofi Ofori.
