The new medical facility is a procedural theatre where minimally invasive tests and procedures will be performed to diagnose and treat cardiovascular diseases.

A Catherisation Laboratory commonly referred to as Cath Lab is an examination room in a hospital or clinic with diagnostic imaging equipment used to visualise the arteries of the heart and the chambers of the heart and treat any stenosis or abnormally found.

Speaking at the official unveiling of the facility, CEO of Bank Hospital, Mr. Indren Poovan said the establishment of Cath Lab marks the medical facility’s significant milestone in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

“With this advanced facility, we aim to deliver the highest standard of care to patients with cardiac conditions in our community and beyond,” he said.

In an address, Dr. Charlotte Osafo, Medical Director at the Bank Hospital said the catheterisation laboratory will indeed expand access to quality diagnostics and prompt management of patients with coronary artery disease and other cardiovascular diseases.

Dr Osafo also mentioned that cardiovascular diseases have remained the leading cause of death at the global level for the past 20 years with coronary artery diseases and its complications on the rise in sub-Saharan Africa including Ghana.

“For this very reason, I am happy that the Bank Hospital has taken the bold initiative to be amongst the pioneers in Ghana with regard to comprehensive management of coronary artery diseases and other cardiovascular diseases by building this laboratory,” she stated.
