A non-governmental organization, Living Wealth Klinik, has paid for the registration of 330 people under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The beneficiaries included orphans, mostly children from Remar Orphanage and some children from Social Welfare in Ho.
Other beneficiaries were members of the NGO who are receiving employable skills.
The NGO’s Coordinator in charge of Projects, Mr Kenneth Adziman, said the registration was to enable the beneficiaries to enjoy benefits under the national health insurance policy.
Orphans need help
He said vulnerable people, especially orphans, must be assisted by philanthropists, organizations and individuals to live healthy lives.
Mr Adziman,stated that healthy people constituted a healthy nation and indicated that such people also needed to be strong to contribute to the development of the country.
He added that some people at Kpando, Aflao and Hohoe had also benefited from a similar registration.
The Akatsi-based NGO, which has been in existence for the past four months, according to him, had its focus on fighting poverty among the youth in the rural and urban areas.
The co-coordinator explained that the NGO supported people who needed assistance to establish or expand their small businesses through entrepreneurial and business development training.
“We believe that the training and grants we give to these people mostly recruited from the streets, such as sellers and vendors would complement government’s effort to reduce the unemployment situation in the country”, he stated.
Konongo Apostolic Church
In a related development, 200 needy members of the Konongo branch of the Apostolic Church of Ghana have benefited from free registration under the National Health Insurance Scheme, writes Felix A. Baidoo, KONONGO
The beneficiaries were mostly children and those above 60 years of age.
Preaching at a church service preceding the presentation of the ID cards, the Area Head of the Asante Akim branch of the Apostolic Church of Ghana, Apostle William Sandow Dantiar, said the church did not only support the spiritual development but social need of members as well.
The registration coincided with a thanksgiving service organized by the Konongo District of the church to climax the 80th anniversary of the formation of the Apostolic Church in Ghana.
The service which had the theme, “Come Holy Spirit,” brought together members of the church in the Konongo District in the Ashanti Region.
Apostle Dantiar lamented that most preachers now concentrated their messages on wealth creation and prosperity, instead of preaching about salvation, pointing out that this had led to a decline in moral issues.
The Konongo District Pastor of the Apostolic Church of Ghana, Apostle Emmanuel Mensah Henaku, urged parents to let the proper training of their children be their priority to enable them to withstand peer pressure.
