The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is to suspend operations at its Eye Centre to pave the way for its relocation to a newly completed building.
The suspension will take effect from September 28 to October 2, 2015 to enable the hospital to move equipment and other essential facilities to the new building.
The new centre will, however, be opened to the public on October 5, 2015.
The Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mr Mustapha Salifu, told the Daily Graphic that while regular eye care services would be suspended within the period, emergency cases would be attended to at the old eye clinic.
He said when the equipment for the centre arrived, the hospital had not completed civil works on the new facility, for which reason it could not install the equipment.
“We are now transfering the equipment to the new centre for installation,” he added.
The cost
The construction of the £3.5-million Eye Centre which started in 2011 was completed this month.
Located behind the new Physiotherapy Department, the facility will cater for all eye diseases and offer training to Ghanaians and citizens of other countries in the West African sub-region.
The centre currently attends to an average of 400 cases monthly.
“Although the movement to the new centre will create inconvenience for our patients, it is being done to provide them with enhanced eye care services. We, therefore, apologise for any inconvenience it may cause,” a statement issued by the hospital said.
