Pupils and students of MotherCare School at Burma Camp, Accra last Friday walked through some principal streets of Accra to create awareness about the Ebola virus and the cholera disease.
The health walk, which was also used to mark the 50th anniversary of the school, was to teach the children about ways to prevent themselves from Ebola and cholera.
The students, numbering more than 300, set off from the school premises in the early hours of the morning from Burma Camp through the Switchback Road to Kanda.
Accompanied by brass band music, they marched through the streets joyfully and when they got to Cantonments, the students paused and recited some health tips on Ebola and cholera on top of their voices, apparently to share their knowledge with the public.
When they got back to the school premises, Mrs Linda Boye, the Headmistress of the School, cautioned students to wash their hands with soap which should go up to their wrists each time they visit the washroom and shake hands with their mates.
She noted that Ebola, just like cholera, was contagious and children must be wary of them.
Most children the Junior Graphic spoke to expressed their excitement about the celebration and noted that the exercise should be held frequently for their physical well-being and raise awareness of the need for the education of the African child.
