Breast enhancement craze still high
Despite the education on the effects of using breast enlargement products, more ladies, including teenagers, continue to patronise them with the intention of attracting men or making their partners happy.

According to health experts, the use of such unnatural methods to increase the size of one’s breast leads to the overgrowth of cells in the target areas, which increases one’s chance of getting breast cancer.
Lamenting the increasing rate at which young women patronise these drugs, a Principal Midwifery Officer at the Central Hospital in Tamale, Hajia Asanatu K. Sumani, said the use of breast enlargement creams, pills and pumping machines were dangerous to the health of its users, adding that such practices could lead to breast cancers.
Speaking at a day’s follow-up on breast cancer examination and experience-sharing session for 60 women group leaders, she explained that some of the drugs that people use to increase the sizes of their breasts contain substances which were harmful to the body.
She said others pumped their breasts with some instruments, which lead to the inflammation of the vessels in the breast.
Hajia Sumani, however, encouraged women to examine their breasts when bathing in order for them to detect any abnormality and seek early treatment.
She said screening and treatment for breast and cervical cancers were free in northern Ghana and, therefore, urged women to take advantage of the offer to report cases early.
The Northern Regional Director of the Department of Gender, Mr I. P. S. Zakaria- said breast and cervical cancer issues were very worrisome and, therefore, called on the general public to support initiatives geared towards creating awareness of the disease.
Cancers
Breast cancer is a disease which affects women mostly. The disease is said to have killed thousands of women worldwide.
In Ghana, for instance, it is estimated that for every 100,000 women, between 50 and 70 stand the risk of getting breast or cervical cancer.
