Dr Addo–Kufuor was speaking at a dinner organised by the final- year students of the Christian Fellowship of the School for Medical Sciences of the University of Cape Coast.

Speaking on the theme: “Fundamental factors and guiding principles leading to a successful life in practice,”  he said the general public perceived  doctors as decent, knowledgeable, respectable and helpful human beings.

He described the medical profession as “a noble profession esteemed from ancient times to the present generation”.

This, he noted, needed to be protected and maintained by showing-high level of integrity, human disposition, modesty and sense of responsibility.

“A young doctor must be a good team player, show respect to all and also pay attention to the quality of all the relationships, including professionals in the health community,” he added.

Dr Kuffour urged the students to take advantage of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and residency programmes in the teaching hospitals and specialise in their areas of interest.

Concerning patients, Dr Addo- Kufuor urged the new entrants to accept that the patient was always right.

He admonished young doctors to be current, well informed and competent, since patients were now well informed due to access to the Internet.
