Zoomlion disinfests sites in Techiman
Zoomlion, a waste management company, in collaboration with the Techiman Municipal Assembly in the Brong Ahafo Region, has embarked on a vector control programme in the municipality to control diseases such as cholera, dysentery, malaria and diarrhoea and also ensure good sanitation.

The programme, which is going on throughout the region, has been intensified in the Techiman municipality and involves the spraying of waste transfer sites, refuse dumps, waste collection points at markets and elsewhere, drainage systems, selected residences and landfill sites.
The disinfestation programme in the Techiman municipality is being undertaken by a 20-member spraying team with 10 spraying machines and a boom spraying vehicle.
The Brong Ahafo Regional Vector Control Officer of Zoomlion, Mr Ernest Osei Brenya, after the spraying of the various points in Techiman, urged the people to ensure good sanitation practices, as well as a sound environment.
He said the programme would be intensified in all the municipalities and districts in the region to help control the outbreak of diseases.

The Techiman Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Mr Abdul Karim Issifu, said the assembly had a contract with Zoomlion concerning the control of mosquitoes and other vectors.
He, however, stressed the need for intensive public education for people to ensure sound environment and proper personal hygiene, as well as the avoidance of stagnant waters, which serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Mr Issifu said most diseases were sanitation - related and that Zoomlion should combine spraying with public education.
He said the municipal assembly was seriously enforcing its bye-laws on sanitation to control the outbreak of diseases in the municipality.
He appealed to management of Zoomlion to equip its municipal office to ensure continued spraying of the environment.
