Youth of Jorpanya urged to close their ranks

The General Secretary of the Manya Jorpanya Youth Association, Mr Benjamin Nargeh, has commended the Chief of Jorpanya, Dr Nene Tei Djahene Korabo IV, for establishing enterprises in the town and contributing to the development of the area.

According to him, ever since Nene Korabo became the Chief of Jorpanya, the town has seen tremendous improvement.

Mr Nargeh offered the commendation at a press conference held at Jorpanya at the weekend, dubbed, ‘Setting the records straight.’

He enumerated the projects the chief had facilitated since his enstoolment to include funding the establishment of the Manya District Assembly (D/A) Basic School, provision of pipe-borne water for the town and the constructing of a two-kilometre road linking Jorpanya to the main Akosombo-Tema highway.

Development projects

Nene Korabo, he said, had also sponsored the reconstruction of eight family houses, built a funeral home and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) centres at Jorpanya and Dodowa and also fixed streets lights for both towns.

He stated further that the chief had for the past years created an enabling environment in the town to attract investors and urged the people to lend their support to the move which would create jobs and enhance the overall development of the town.

In line with the investment drive, Mr Nargeh took advantage to correct the suspicion that Nene Korabo IV had registered a family land in his name when he had in fact registered it in the name of the town.

Tracing the history of the people of Jorpanya, Mr Nargeh said the present land they were living on was first inhabited by their forebears in 1890, followed by another group of Shais who descended from the Shai Hills in 1982.

He noted that the people of Jorpanya at separate times in the past occupied 3,020 and 9,220 acres of land near Asutuare Junction belonging to the people of Manya living at Shai, bringing the total land size occupied to 12,240 and not 22,000 acres as alleged by the so-called Youth Association of Manya.

Clean environment

Mr Nargeh said due to arrangements put in place by Nene Korabo IV and sub-chiefs and elders with the Zoomlion Company, a waste management institution, the entire traditional area was noted to be the cleanest in the Shai area.

He, therefore, urged the supposed youth association to contribute to the town’s development rather than go about spewing insults and inaccuracies over events that were happening at Jorpanya.

He said there was only one leader in the person of Dr Nene Korabo IV, as well as one youth association in Jorpanya, and as such called on all other youth groups purporting to speak on behalf of the youth in the area to cease their activities forthwith.

“We revere our chief and the chieftaincy institution; as such we deem it as disrespectful when people peddle untruths about the chief, the town and its people.
“Indigenes of Jorpanya are peaceful, law abiding, hardworking and have respect for all people,” he said.

The Secretary to the family heads in Jorpanya, Mr Numo E.T Agbo, called for unity and urged all in the community desirous of gaining knowledge of the history of the town and the entire people of Shai to draw closer to the family heads of the seven clans of Manya for accurate information.

An elder in Jorpanya, Numo Tetteh Aboanor Klakai, urged all citizens of Jorpanya who had travelled to endeavour to visit home and bring their experiences to bear and help with the town’s development.
