A swift intervention by the SWAT team of the police in Sawla in the Northern Region prevented some irate youth said to be members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), from vandalising the police station over the arrest of an NPP constituency executive.

The youth stormed the police station Wednesday night to free the NPP constituency Youth Organiser, Adamu Sakara who had been arrested and detained for allegedly attacking a Police Officer at his residence.

Sakara was said to have attacked the police officer after he saw his girlfriend who is a community police personnel at the residence of the police officer.

He suspected the police officer of having a sexual affair with his [Sakara] girlfriend and so he attacked him and the situation resulted in a near bloody clash between the 'jealous' Youth organiser and the police officer which led to his arrest.

According to eyewitnesses, the aggrieved youth pelted stones at the officers and threatened to set the building ablaze if the youth organiser was not released from custody.

In a video in circulation on social media, the District Chief Executive Officer for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba is seen in a verbal exchange with some Police officers demanding the immediate release of the constituency Youth Organiser while some of the irate youth who stormed the Police station engaged other officers.

Also, in the two-minute video, a police officer is heard shouting "I will fire you down, I will fire you down,” and blamed the DCE of Sawla for fuelling the attack.

When Graphic Online contacted the District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr. O.K Boateng, he confirmed the attack, but declined to give details.
