Youth advised against negative use of Internet

The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, has advised the youth against the negative use of the Internet to defraud people, an act popularly known as ‘Sakawa’ (cyber fraud).

He also said the posting of nude pictures on the Internet, instead of using it to acquire knowledge to enhance their education and for the good of the society was very reprehensible and should be discouraged.

Presentation 

Alhaji Limuna said that at the presentation of 1,615 RLG laptop computers to teachers in the region. Five Toyota Hilux pickup vehicles were also handed over to five newly created districts for monitoring and supervision of schools to enhance quality education delivery in the region.

The laptops are meant for distribution to teachers who were trained by the RLG under the Basic School Computerisation Project (BSCP), while the pickup vehicles are for the five newly-created districts, namely Kumbungu, Mion, Tatale, North Gonja and North Mogduri districts under the Ghana Partnership for Education Grant (GPEG).

The presentation of the laptops brings the total number distributed so far to teachers in the region to 5,017.

Beneficiary schools

A total of 2,352 laptops and 150 trolleys have also been distributed to 160 schools in the Northern Region to improve on the learning of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in basic schools in the region.

Additional 74 trolleys were also presented to some selected basic schools in the region at the ceremony for the safekeeping of the laptops.

He expressed the hope that the teachers whose capacities had been built in ICT would use the knowledge acquired to improve upon ICT lessons in their schools and also train their colleague teachers who had no skills in ICT.

Alhaji Limuna said the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) was working closely with the regional Education Directorate to address the continuous decline in educational standards  in the region, especially at the basic level and urged all stakeholders to work hard to address the situation.

He said the two bodies, as part of measures to address the situation, had decided to intensify monitoring and supervision in schools to enhance quality education delivery in the region.

Appreciation

The Northern Regional Director of Education, Alhaji Mohammed Haroun, who received the laptops and keys to the vehicles, said the gesture from the government would go a long way to enhance quality education delivery in the region, as well as the teaching and learning of ICT in schools.

He urged the beneficiaries of the pickup vehicles to ensure their regular maintenance and use them for the intended purpose.

The Northern Regional Manager of Toyota Ghana Company Limited, Mr Rahman Alhassan-Ghunu, donors of the Toyota pickups, said the company was happy to partner the government to enhance quality education delivery in the country.
