Yinson supports SHS students with scholarships

Yinson Production West Africa, managers of FPSO John Agyekum Kufuor currently moored Offshore Cape Three Points, has launched a scholarship scheme to financially support 10 senior high school students annually in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region.

The programme targets students from low-income households in its host communities of Apowa, Kejabil and Prestea, all in the municipality, and beneficiaries will be supported annually for the period of their stay in their respective schools.

After a brief ceremony to launch the Yinson Scholars Programme, as it has been christened, its first beneficiaries were provided monthly stipends and basic necessities such as trunks, chop-boxes, exercise and text books, students mattresses and pillows, calculators, school bags and shoes.

Speaking at the launch and presentation of the packages to beneficiaries, Mr Edward Mensah, the Local Content and Corporate Social Responsibility Manager of Yinson said the move is to give back to the local communities where it operates.

He added that the company believes in investing in the future generation by improving access to quality education in its quest to ensure continuous quality human resource development for the country and host communities.

For his part, the District Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service in the Ahanta West, Mr. Daniel Payne commended Yinson for the initiative, which he said would offer hope to the less privileged in society.

Mr Clement Duho, a parent commended the company for the initiative, saying it came as a great relief to him as a parent and other families.

Nana Ebum II, the Queen of Kejebil urged students in the community to take their studies seriously so they can also benefit from the scholarship. She also appealed for the extension of the scheme to the tertiary level.

Other projects
The company through its social investment projects had previously provided a 1,000-seating capacity assembly hall for Nkroful in the Western Region with an embedded sustainability component for maintenance of the facility.
