It also offered the people the platform to ask questions bordering on the socio-economic situation in the municipality.

The durbar brought together opinion leaders and various youth groups from the area.

Issues

Prominent among issues discussed were the rehabilitation of the Klo-Agogo market, pavement of the Somanya lorry station, fixing of some destroyed pipelines in Somanya, road construction and water projects.

Mr Sodah said the meeting would be a regular feature by the assembly where the people would demand answers to their challenges. It would also enable the assembly to outline its vision and also inform the people about its development projects.

“At forums like this, you are at liberty to find out issues bothering you about governance in the Yilo Krobo municipality and I, as the chief executive, will give you appropriate answers to your questions.

“I am very pleased with this community durbar during which you voiced out matters bothering your minds. I hope you are satisfied with the answers.” he said.

Rehabilitation

Mr Sodah explained the reasons for the delay in the road rehabilitation works in the Somanya town.

According to him, the inability of some property owners to relocate was part of the reasons for the holdup and, therefore, appealed to the people to cooperate with the contractors to ensure the early completion of the work.

Supervision

The convener of the durbar, Mr Jones Ebenezer Adamtey, who is also the assembly member for the Sawer Electoral Area in Somanya, stressed  the need for  constant supervision of development projects in the municipality to ensure value for money.

He observed that some contractors were not living up to expectation and indicated that work on some of the projects, particularly bridges and culverts, was shoddy.

Some of the people also expressed concern that taps in their homes had stopped flowing, a situation they partly attributed to the ongoing road works.
