UG, UHAS dominate top 50 lecturers' list in Ghana - World Scientist and University Rankings 2021 indicates
Forty one lecturers of Ghana's two oldest public universities and a new entrant dominate the list of top 50 lecturers in Ghana.
In its latest monitoring work, the World Scientist and University Rankings 2021 ranked the lecturers for their research work and impact of their various universities.

The University of Ghana has 25 lecturers in the top 50, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has nine, with the new entrant, the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho, having seven of its lecturers ranked among the top 50.
The others are University of Cape Coast (UCC), three; the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), two; the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA, the Koforidua Technical University, the Ghana Technology University College and the Catholic University College, one each.
In all, a total of 706,043 scientists/lecturers from 187 countries and 11,518 universities were involved in the exercise, Ghana had 627 scientists/lecturers and 32 universities in it.

According to the rankings, Dr Dwomoa Adu of the University of Ghana, whose subject area is Medical and Health Science/Dentistry, placed first in Ghana, first in the university and 71st in Africa.
He, however, came out 9,522nd position among all lecturers in the world.
Prof. Fred Binka of the UHAS (Medical and Health Sciences/Epidemiology) came second in Ghana, first in his university, 83rd in Africa and 11,198th in the world.
Number three on the list in Ghana is Prof Seth Owusu-Agyei of the UHAS (Medical and Health Sciences/Epidemiology and Public Health.
He placed second in the UHAS, 105th in Africa and 12,602nd in the world.
The Vice-Chancellor of the UHAS, Prof John Gyapong, placed fourth in Ghana, third in his university, 111th in Africa and 13,938th in the world.
His subject area is Medical and Health Sciences/Epidemiology and Public Health.
Other areas of interest to him include disease control, neglected tropical diseases and research capacity strengthening.

Coming fifth in the rankings in Ghana was Prof George Dei (Social Sciences/Anthropology) of UEW.
He took the first place in his university, 141st in Africa and 16,860th in the world, the World Scientist and University Rankings showed.
A former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, whose subject areas are Economics and Econometrics/Economics Development Economics), came second in his university, sixth in Ghana, 250th in Africa and 25,636th inthe world.
Another lecturer of the University of Ghana, Prof. Daniel Adjei Boakye (Medical and Health Sciences/Infectious Diseases (Tropical diseases) was ranked seventh in Ghana, third in his university, 290th in Africa and 28,968th in the world.
The eighth position in Ghana went to Prof. Joshua Yindenaba Abor of the University of Ghana (Econometrics/Accounting & Finance.
He placed fourth in his university, 358th in Africa and 32,580th in world.
His subject area includes banking and finance, development finance, financial market development and corporate finance and corporate.
Prof. Robert Clement Abaidoo of the KNUST, who is into Agriculture and forestry/soil sciences and plant nutrition, was ninth in Ghana, first in his university, 429th in Africa and 36,216th in the world.
Tenth on the rankings is Prof. Richard Odame Phillips (Medical And Health Sciences/Infectious Diseases) of the KNUST. He was second in his university, 488th in Africa and 39,598th in the world.
Eleventh in Ghana is Prof. David Teye Doku of the UCC (Medical and Health Sciences/Infectious Diseases). He placed first in the UCC, 11th in Ghana, 513th in Africa and 41,285th in the world.
A member of the KNUST, Prof. Ellis Owusu-Dabo (Medical and Health Sciences/Epidemiology and Public Health) was third in his university, 12th in Ghana, 514th in Africa and 41,371st in the world. He is also into Population Genomics of Tuberculosis and Health System Research and Disease Control.
Prof. Margaret Gyapong (Social Sciences/Sociology) was fourth at the UHAS, 13th in Ghana, 549th in Africa and 43,579th in the world, while Prof. Isabella Quakyi (Medical and Health Sciences/Epidemiology and Public Health) of the University of Ghana was fifth in her university, 14th in Ghana, 573rd in Africa and 44,867th in the world, with Prof. Daniel Ansong being the fourth in KNUST, 15th in Ghana, 628th in Africa and 47,460th in the world.
