A nominee for the Vlisco Women’s Month 2014 Awards, Mrs Eugenia Tachie-Menson, who made the call, said it was only by venturing into challenging positions that women could be motivated to meet their expectations in life.

Mrs Tachie-Menson gave the advice when she donated a quantity of items worth GH¢1,500, made up of baby diapers and other items, to the Maternity Unit of the Achimota Hospital in Accra.

Other materials donated to the unit included towels, bed sheets and some gifts from Vlisco Company, producers of African  textiles.

Presenting the items, Mrs Tachie-Menson said as part of Vlisco’s activities, every nominee had a responsibility to make a donation to a maternity unit.

Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, the Medical Superintendent, Dr Mark M.K. Aglobitse, said the unit used to be a small entity but was expanded seven years ago.

According to him, the unit handled about 2,000 deliveries in a year, adding that there was the need to expand the unit to accommodate more patients.

He commended Mrs Tachie-Menson for her commitment to support and equip the Maternity Unit of Achimota Hospital, and also called on stakeholders and the public to help  equip the hospital to enable it to provide proper and efficient services to patients.
