Wisa swerves court third time

Hiplife artiste, Eugene Ashe, popularly known as Wisa Greid, for the third consecutive time, failed to appear in court in the case in which he has been charged with indecent public exposure.

The artiste is already a wanted person after the Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, issued a bench warrant for his arrest on June 26, 2016.

The warrant was issued after he had failed to show up in court for the second consecutive time.

Wisa is alleged to have removed his manhood during a live performance at an event dubbed: “Decemba to Rememba” in Accra on December 24, 2015, organised by Citi FM, an Accra-based radio station and Airtel Telecommunications.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charge and is currently on bail in the sum of GH¢8,000 with one surety.

Lawyer’s worry

Counsel for Wisa, Mr Jerry Avenorgbor, too was not present when the case was called yesterday, but he showed up after the case had already been adjourned to August 3, 2016.

He explained to the Daily Graphic that he called Wisa last Monday and informed him that the court would hear the case yesterday.

According to Mr Avenorgbor, he did not understand why the “Ekiki Me” hit maker had made it a habit not to attend the court proceedings.

Bench warrant

Wisa is no stranger to bench warrants, as the June 26, 2016 warrant was the third the court had issued for his arrest.

The previous two warrants were issued on February 5 and March 23 , 2016.

In the first instance, he and his lawyer showed up in court after the case had been adjourned and the judge had retired to her chambers.

That warrant was rescinded by the court on February 14, 2016 after Wisa’s counsel had pleaded with the court that his client was late to court because he had suffered stomach aches.

It rescinded the second bench warrant which had been issued on March 23, the same day after Mr Avenorgbor had once again explained that the accused was late because of some health issues.

Background

On December 25, 2015, the attention of the Accra Regional Police Command was drawn to a nude video posted on the Internet from an unknown source.

According to the prosecution, investigations into the case revealed that on December 24, 2015, Airtel Telecommunications and Citi FM had organised a Christmas party at the Accra International Conference Centre with Wisa as one of the guest artistes.

In the course of the event, Wisa was ushered in to perform on the main stage, together with a female dancer.

It said during the performance, Wisa stood behind the female dancer as they danced together and suddenly removed his male organ to stroke the buttocks of the dancer, in the full glare of the audience.
