Wa GES Director dies 3 days after taking over from interdicted boss
The Wa Municipal Director of Education, Ms Theresa Ninnang Sung-Aabu, who was to take over from the interdicted Upper West Regional Director of Education, Mr Duncan Nsor, 55, has passed away, three days after she was named to act.
She died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra yesterday morning after what some family sources described as a short illness.

This was a day after the letter promoting her to take up a higher responsibility as the acting Regional Director of Education for the Upper West Region was dispatched.
Ms Sung-Aabu herself had been on retirement since October last year, sources at the Regional GES office told the Daily Graphic.
The interdiction of Nsor and the order to hand over, contained in a letter signed by the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, occurred last Wednesday.
“You’re to hand over the office to the Wa Municipal Director of Education, who is by a copy of this letter, directed to take temporary responsibility for the region during the period of the interdiction,” Prof. Opoku-Amankwa wrote.
Surprise
The death of Ms Sung-Aabu took Wa by surprise as most of the people expressed shock at the news, although she had not been well for some time.
She was the wife of a former Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Matthew Aabu-Sung, who is also a businessman based in Wa.
When the Daily Graphic visited her residence, the place was deserted as the family was said to be in Accra, where she had been admitted before her passing.
Interdiction
Mr Nsor was interdicted last Wednesday on circumstances surrounding the auctioning of a truck belonging to the Wa School for the Deaf.
According to the GES, in a letter signed by the Director-General, Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, at the time of the auction, the truck was still under the care of Mr Nsor, who had refused to notify the school or the Director-General about the development.
The letter of his interdiction was to facilitate investigations into allegations against him including “bribery in the appointment of some heads of some second cycle schools in the region’’.
Nsor was also alleged to have deducted money from some allowances belonging to teachers in the region.
Background
Mr Nsor, who took over the position following the retirement of Mr Evans Kpebah on June 3, last year, was the Pusiga District Director of Education.
The DG has since set up an investigative committee to look into the issues.
