VRA restores 100 megawatts

The exploded switch breakerThe Volta River Authority (VRA) has replaced the circuit breaker which exploded at the switchyard near the steam turbine of the Takoradi Thermal Station at Aboadze last Friday.

The incident resulted in the loss of 100 megawatts of power constituting about 20 per cent of the station's capacity.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Head of Public Affairs, Mr Samuel Kwesi Fletcher said engineers worked throughout the weekend and restored power last Sunday afternoon.

On the day of the explosion, the VRA assured that the circuit breaker would be replaced immediately and that it would not have any serious effect on the ongoing load shedding over the weekend.

An official who was working near the breakers at the time of the explosion was affected by white strong lightning and was rushed to hospital for medical attention has also been treated and discharged.

Mr Fletcher explained that non of the generating units was affected and that currently everything is perfect.
